The colouring fun has now begun!

It was my birthday last Saturday. Happy Birthday to me! I planned a fairly low key day as I knew I would be tired following three days of challenging work and Brianna returning early from a week-long camp at Canberra. A yummy cheesecake for afternoon tea was a great addition to the day!

One of my presents was a beautiful colouring book from my sisters. I'm a little late in joining the current craze but really appreciate receiving this book as a present. Wonderful to look at, even if you never plan to colour any of the pictures!

I also got a smaller colouring book from Alysha.

On Monday, in a continuation of birthday celebrations, I went to an art shop with my to-be sister in law to treat myself to some coloured pencils or pens. I couldn't decide and hey, it was my birthday so I now have both.

I haven't had a lot of time to colour this week but have made a start. I love the vibrant colour of the pens.

5 poems in 5 days - Day 2

Today's poem is a reminiscence on fun had at Moana caravan park where I spent a few school holidays. This poem was published last year in the anthology my poetry group put out, Ochre - an anthology by Ochre Coast Poets.

Playground, present

Holiday lessons in physics
where to sit on the wooden plank
to compensate for variations in weight
keep it even and fair
up and down
to and fro

The children from neighbouring vans
met earlier in the day
become playmates
our limbs coated with sunscreen goo
faces with smiles
sand between toes
a summer uniform of bathers
under shorts and t-shirts
sandals discarded at the gate
we salt the air with laughter
nervous giggles and gasps
as we take turns
to bounce off half tyres

With new friends called to caravans
learning continues
how to keep the plank
parallel to the ground
my body a letter x
toes curled, tense
a shifting of weight
from side to side

To balance in the now
was easier then

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Cute little shadows today for Shadow Shot Sunday. These ones remind me of a little bird.  I didn't notice the spider webs until I was looking at the photos on the computer. The camera certainly sees what is there.

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

A variety of shadows today for Shadow Shot Sunday

Last night I was kind of watching television and noticed some great shadows cast from some "Where the Wild Things Are" figures that I have on top of a bookshelf.

This morning I took some photographs along with discovering rather a lot of dust.

After a quick dust and a bit of a change around I took a few more photos. Here's a couple that turned out best.

I then ventured outside. All of my shots for Shadow Shot Sunday are taken in and around my house and yard.

Here are some leafy shadows on leaves.

What is leaf and what is shadow?

and some shadows on a fallen palm frond.

Shadow Shot Sunday - September 21st, 2014

It's been a long time since I participated in Shadow Shot Sunday. It was over 2 years ago on August 12th, 2012. I was very pleased to see it was still going when I returned to my blog a few weeks ago.  Today is such a fabulous day for shadows here and here I am once again.

I ventured down to the back of my backyard earlier today and discovered lots of wonderful shadows.

I love these shadows on the leaves -

and then I discovered they also look great from underneath and with the sky as background.

I had been avoiding getting the sun in the shots and then I took one quickly before heading back inside. Wow! I love how this one turned out.

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Not a lot of shadows around this morning. Those that do appear don't stay for long. I did manage to capture these -

Shadow Shot Sunday - April 29th, 2012

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Waiting, waiting, waiting for shadows today.

While hanging out the washing this morning I was thinking that Shadow Shot Sunday was going to be easy today. There were so many great shadows. I went inside to grab the camera. By the time I got back they were all gone. After quite a wait the sun reappeared and I was pleased to capture these two.

Shadow Shot Sunday - April 22nd, 2012

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Vertical blind shadows today. I didn't have to go far for these but I did have to be quick! I am also now aware of some spider webs on the ceiling.
