My newest passion is gardening. I only started a few weeks ago after spending most of my life saying 'I'm not a gardener'. Now I'm finding it quite enjoyable. It started with a mini garden in a polystyrene box and then some radishes. Then on Mother's Day Alysha presented me with some snow pea seedlings. What a wonderful gift! We planted them that afternoon in a barrel in the backyard. That was super easy given that previous tenants had set up a climbing frame. So the toddler snow peas were right at home. Much love was showered on them by all including night visits with a torch to check they were settling in. Then a couple of days later after talking about the snow peas excessively and many visits Alysha asked "Are you going to write a poem about them?" Well I do write poems about lots of different stuff! That definitely seemed like a challenge though! A few days later a poem was completed. Here it is:
Tendrils
On Mother's Day
with smiling anticipation and
travelling on tenderness
toddler snow peas arrive
with love
toddler snow peas
holding gifts to share
deep knowledge of growth
tiny tendrils reaching out
rich promises of possibilities
and thoughts
the tendrils of my own
tiny pieces of me
reaching out
twirling and curling
wrapping around significance
tendrils with offers of stability
as growth continues on
